Heroes and Cultural Identity Project

Three-year Project Plan

YEAR 1

  1. Meet to agree general approach (October 2006)

  2. Start working with classes to prepare materials on individual heroes. Limited numbers of classes. No separate categories of heroes. Identify the number of students for involvement with the programme.

  3. Prepare publicity/communication systems -
    • Website - develop the forms for common completion & post on the website for access by all students
    • Publication - develop a newsletter for distribution around all partners & students involved
    • Notice board - each school to identify a well used notice board to post the latest Heroes, inviting votes & competition
    • Poster - advertising the project, website and highlight the voting process
  4. Meeting to arrange first full run - students looking at materials, holding voting, monitoring progress (March/April 2007)

  5. Carry out full voting procedure, analyse results and choose winners.

  6. Final reports on Year 1 to be collated by all partners & submitted to National Agencies

YEAR 2

  1. Meeting to agree general approach (October 2007).

  2. Commence work on second round. Aim at expanding number of students involved , with more heroes, this time organised into categories (such as sporting, music, history, local etc.)

  3. Adapt and develop publicity/communication systems

  4. Meeting to arrange second full run and monitor progress (March/April 2008)

  5. Carry out full voting procedure, analyse results and choose winners.

  6. Final reports on Year 2 to be collated by all partners & submitted to National Agencies

YEAR 3

  1. Meeting to agree general approach. (October 2008) Emphasis this year on analysing the results of the project and the processes involved. Who are heroes? What are students looking for in a hero? Is the concept of a hero and celebrity a good thing? If it is felt useful - also continue with preparation for a third round.

  2. Work with classes to look at materials and results of previous two years' work.

  3. Meeting to discuss completing project and final products (March/April 2009). Key final products will be the website and a publication covering the heroes, the impact of heroes on cultural identity, analysis of the cult of celebrity and evaluation of student involvement. Dissemination of project results via the website, a series of localised seminars and publication of results in Sector magazines.
